Clinical governance

Clear responsibilities, agreed before work starts

BCS clinicians follow the commissioning practice or organisation's clinical governance and procedures. Here is how responsibilities are shared.

Your organisation

  • Remains the registered provider and keeps clinical accountability for its patients
  • Sets the clinical direction, policies, protocols and escalation routes
  • Decides which tasks are delegated and to whom

BCS clinicians

  • Work within your clinical governance, procedures and their own professional competence
  • Follow the agreed scope and escalate anything outside it
  • Record work clearly in your clinical system

BCS as provider

  • Checks registration, indemnity and right-to-work before placement
  • Provides induction, training and ongoing clinical supervision
  • Runs quality assurance audits and reports activity to you

Who is clinically responsible when BCS clinicians work in my practice?

Your organisation remains the registered provider. BCS clinicians work under your clinical direction and procedures, within their own competence. Responsibilities are agreed in writing before work starts.

How does BCS check the quality of its clinicians' work?

Through induction, clinical supervision, consultation audits, peer review and regular activity reporting shared with the commissioning organisation.

Can BCS clinicians prescribe?

Only clinicians with the appropriate prescribing qualification can prescribe, within their competence and the scope your organisation agrees. Other prescription authorisation is carried out by a GP.
