Ways to commission
Commission exactly the support you need
One service, a few sessions, a shared team or a defined project. BCS arrangements are built around your workload, not a fixed package.
A single service
Commission one piece of work, such as repeat prescribing support, structured medication reviews or GP pathology results, for as many sessions as you need.
See services →Part-time clinical workforce
A pharmacist, pharmacy technician or GP for an agreed number of sessions each week, remotely, on site or a mix of both.
See services →Shared clinical teams
Share one pharmacist or a small medicines team fairly across several practices, with sessions and reporting set out for each practice.
See services →GP-Led Medicines Management Team
Pharmacists handle suitable medicines tasks while a supplied GP makes medical decisions, interprets pathology, manages complex cases and authorises prescriptions.
See services →A defined project
A fixed-scope piece of work with an agreed timeline and reporting, such as clearing an SMR, results or high-risk monitoring backlog.
See services →Network or system programmes
Medicines optimisation across a PCN, federation or ICB, with consistent processes and network-level reporting.
See services →Do I need a full-time contract to work with BCS?
No. You can commission a few sessions a week, one service, a shared team or a single project. Arrangements are agreed around your workload.
Whose clinical governance do BCS clinicians follow?
BCS clinicians work under the commissioning practice or organisation's clinical direction, policies and procedures. Responsibilities are agreed in writing before work starts.
Can I start with a project and move to ongoing support?
Yes. Many organisations start with a defined project, then keep regular sessions once the backlog is clear.
Is every arrangement ARRS-eligible?
No. Some workforce arrangements may be supported through eligible ARRS funding if NHS requirements are met. Projects and other services are usually funded from practice, PCN or commissioned budgets.
